- Greetings! I hope someone can spare the time to help me...
-
- I'm getting desperate. I need to set up a bloody single-Amiga to single PC
- network running INet225 on the Amiga and Windows95 on the PC. Both ends MUST
- have gui front ends and the s/w can be PD or shareware (please note that
- INet225 is the AmigaDOS software we already have installed. --Maybe
- incorrectly?)
-
- Hardware is a Hydra ethernet card on the Amiga and an Intel card on the Pent120
- PC (Plug and pray). Both ends recognize each other (most of the time) but the
- configurations for the ftp (server, host, etc.) software still befuddles me.
-
- All the FAQs I read really cover the use of FTP (like the AmiFTP we loaded) in
- use over a dialup setup for the internet.
-
- Know of any FAQs on LAN networks running TCP/IP anywhere? (Especially if they
- cover the settings for these programs in general.)
-
- Any information about what sequence the machines must or may be booted up in?
- (Does it really make a difference?)
-
- Know of any TCP/IP "problem-solving" FAQs out there?
-
- Some questions, for instance:
- Why do I get only 14-18 Kbps when transfering a file from the PC to the Amiga?
- And why is it that if I open a DOS window on the PC and "start" an ftp session
- there (without transferring anything) and then go back to the Windows95-based
- gui ftp software my transfer rate goes up to 80Kbps?
-
- Or: Why does the Amiga (a Warped A4000 with a Flyer --not up and running) slow
- down to a crawl AFTER a file has been transfered?
-
- Sorry for the diatribe, I guess I also could use a primer on networking that
- covers Amigas AND PCs (I keep praying!!) but also one that doesn't assume
- everything but that also doesn't talk down to the reader.
-
- (Anybody read the "Networks for Idiots" or similarly titled books? Any good?)
-
- Thanks !
